Politics of Prostitution in Cross River State

We cannot afford to continue to tolerate the politics of prostitution, chicanery and opportunism that has become the bane of our political system especially in the APC.

This is why when you tell somebody that you are a politician you are immediately seen as a charlatan, reprobate and a dishonest fellow.

We must make a conscious effort to change the perception of politics and politicians. A lot of our politicians are power hungry and prostitutes. They change political platforms just as a prostitute changes customers every minute for a fee.

Politicians of this hue are always changing parties as it catches their fancy, desire and whims. They are a capricious lot. They are unprincipled and dishonorable. They always go for inferior methods to get what they want.

They are sly and avaricious. I will illustrate with the antics of one politician from my Local Government Area.

This politician was in the Peoples Democratic Party until about the 10th July 2013. He was a public office holder. He unsuccessfully sought the nomination of the PDP to be the Chairmanship candidate for the forthcoming Local Government Council Elections.

As soon as he was edged out of the race, he quickly switched camp to the defunct ANPP to seek the nomination of the Party.

This is despite the provision in the Constitution of the ANPP that you must be a member of the Party for one year before you can contest an election save you are given a waiver by the National Working Committee of the Party.

This fellow never obtained a waiver because the ANPP technically became dissolved on the 11th May 2013 when it held its convention and approved by a special resolution, its merger with ACN and CPC.

This guy wangled his way to become the ANPP Chairmanship candidate without clearing the legal mines that are strewn his way.

Meanwhile the APC became registered on the 31st July 2013. By the 27th July 2013, the period allowed political parties to submit the names of their candidates by the Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission had expired.

As soon as APC became a political party this sly politician began to scheme to become its candidate.

He colluded with some unprincipled politicians parading as leaders of the APC to supplant genuine party men and women in the parties that merged to form the APC.

We must be wary of this type of “carry go” politicians otherwise there is nothing that will be different between APC and PDP.

This Machiavellian politician must be stopped in his tracks. It is clear that this politician is seeking power for self aggrandizement but not to work for the good of the community.

I think my brother, Obono Obla and his party, APC are the first culprit of this prostitution. If not, can he tell us the name of his firs party since 1999 and what the merger of ACN ( formerly AD and later AC), ANPP ( formerly APP) and CPC repesents? For goodness sake, it is time to be more serious in the approach to enthroning an enduring opposition in Nigeria. For now, all those who are crying foul are guilty of the same crimes they are accusing others of. So, let the kettle not call the pot black.
