An unidentified Cameroonian on Wednesday morning caused a stampede in the Young Shall Grow Motors park along Marian Road when he attacked a man without provocation inflicting him with a severe cut stirring speculation that he is a Boko Haram member.
The man a source at the Young Shall Grow Motors told our reporter boarded a ship to return to Cameroon over the weekend but on arrival at the Duala Port, he was found to be incoherent in his speech by the port officials and was subsequently not allowed to disembark from the ship.
“He told them he was a Cameroonian and showed them his passport but was not allowed to come out but stayed in the ship all through the duration the ship stayed in Cameroon and was closely watched until the ship began its journey back to Nigeria”.
The man, our source said became unruly in the ship and when it berthed at the Calabar Port, some people took him to the Young Shall Grow Motors so he could be sent on land back to his country. “But while he was here he started making trouble and all of a sudden without any provocation attacked one of my passengers with a brick and broke the man’s head causing the man to collapse here and we had to rush him to the Navy Hospital where he was revived”. Mike, the station Manager of the Young Shall Grow motors said.
According to the Manager, he called the Divisional Police Officer of Akim Division who sent two policemen to arrest the Cameroonian. “I expected that the police would arrest the man and take him to the station for interrogation and thereafter send him to the Immigration Service who can properly handle his case but when the police got here one of them was asking who will bail the man if they took him to the station”.
He said he persuaded the police to take the man to the station but was surprised that as soon as they got to the station, the man was allowed to go.
When CrossRiverwatch visited Akim police station, the Divisional Police Officer said the man was insane and does not constitute any security risk that was why he was allowed to go away. “The man is clearly insane so why should we keep him in the station, tell me who will feed him and more so, the person he wounded has said he had nothing to do with the man”.
He said if the reporter is willing to take custody of the man he would go in search of him. “If you can take care of him I can send my men to look for him but I can assure you that the psychiatric hospital will demand for money if you take him there”.
