The promise by the management of the Cross River University of Technology, CRUTECH to provide hostel accommodation for its students in Calabar campus a fortnight after resumption on May 11, 2015 may not be fulfilled even before the end of the semester.
The management in a statement signed by the acting Bursar of the institution Mr. Gabriel Beshel had promised that accommodation will be provided two weeks after resumption on May 11, 2015.
Nearly three months after, CrossRiverWatch findings suggest otherwise as the three hostels are yet to be completed with the Female Hall 3 hostel about 90 percent completed.
The other two hostels, Hall 1 and 2 are about 95 percent with finishing touches slowly ongoing. CrossRiverWatch also gathered examinations are scheduled to begin on August 24 with matriculation twelve days earlier on August 12 and students interested in living in the hostel asked to pay 13,000 Naira as hostel accommodation fees which some students have described as a rip off since they will be occupying the hostel for only a semester as the current one is far spent.
It will be recalled that CrossRiverWatch recently reported that some female students were living with their male colleagues in the absence of hostel accommodation.
