The Cross River State Government has refuted claims by the Nigeria Police Force that the State Green Police is at variance with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The Government which spoke recently through the Commissioner for Information, Mrs. Rosemary Archibong says it’s a misunderstanding.
Speaking to CrossRiverWatch she maintained that, “They appears to be some little misunderstanding, the Green Police is not the Nigeria Police Force, the Green Police is not a parallel Police Force in the country. The Constitution spells out there is one Police Force”.
Continuing she said, “Policing is a verb you know you could have somebody police his daughter, his children. You can police the environment; you can police anywhere, so police that is used as regarding the Green Police is not the police that captures the law enforcement Police structure of the Federal Government of Nigeria”.
Asserting that, “The Green Police is there to ensure the greenery of Cross River State, the Green Police is there to ensure the protection of our forests, So maybe it’s just about the semantics”.
Concluding the Information Commissioner said: “This does not in any way affect, compete or compare with the existing Nigeria Police Force”.
