By CrossRiverWatch Admin

An exclusive CrossRiverWatch investigation is unveiling how five Police Officers serving with the Cross River State Command have been detained since Monday November 13, 2017 for extra judicially killing six suspects accused of kidnapping a business woman in Ikom LGA.

Led by a very well known notorious DSP Nyong Obeten, who heads the anti kidnapping and anti cultism unit of the Command, the five policemen were said to have been dispatched from Calabar to Ikom to rescue the kidnapped victim after the abductors demanded N50m ransom.

The kidnappers according to CrossRiverWatch investigation were said to have been arrested by the  detained Police Officers alive, taken to the Ikom Police station for display and later taken back to the forest and murdered by the Policemen who claimed the suspects engaged them in a gun duel.

A Police source has informed CrossRiverWatch that the Police Commissioner, Inuwa Hafiz has written a petition to the IGP accusing the five Policemen of extra judicial killing.

DSP Obeten, from Ugep in Yakurr LGA is a very notorious cop known not only for collecting bribes with impunity but also for allegedly conniving with criminals to perpetrate crime.

During his time as DPO in Obudu, 8 people were kidnapped with ransoms paid before their release.

He was repeatedly accused of increasing the bribes paid by commercial bike riders at checkpoints leading to turmoil that saw LG Officials holding several emergency meetings to quell the ensuing crisis.

He was later transferred along with 20 other Officers out of Obudu. He refused to resume at his new post in Maiduguri and latched on his political contacts to return to Calabar where he was made the head of the anti kidnapping and anti cultism unit.

He holds an illegal detention cell at his Office at the Cultural Center, Calabar where people are regularly detained for flimsy reasons.

Our newsroom is following the developing story and will continue to bring you details.

This is another major extra judicial killing case after that of Derek Maurice Ben and five others by 14 dismissed Officers who sold their corpse for eleven thousand naira only to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital.
