The Nigerian senate has read for the first time, a bill to establish the Federal Polytechnic, Akpabuyo.
The bill sponsored by the Senator representing the southern senatorial district of Cross River State, Gershom Bassey is expected to be given expedited action on the floor soon after the Easter break by the Senate CrossRiverWatch gathered from national assembly sources.
An aide to Mr. Bassey who simply identified himself as George said the bill shows his commitment to industrial and academic development of the senatorial district.
“Recently, Senator Gershom Bassey called on National Content Development Management Board to employ youths in Odukpani during the construction of the multi – billion naira Oil and Gas Park located in the area,” he said and maintained that the Polytechnic will breach the gap in the education of the cadre of workers required for such industries and those being set up by the state government.
Also, he disclosed that the oil and gas park is expected to create over 2000 direct jobs for locals.
