Life Is Cheap, Short And Brutish In Nigeria – Rev. Olu Martins

Human rights activist, Rev. Olu Martins has said that life in Nigeria is cheap, short and brutish.

He opined that the present day Nigerian leaders are at war with its younger generation, stating that youths must dare to take their destiny by themselves come 2019.

Martins made the assertion Friday in Calabar at the 2018 Cross River State Young And Emerging Political Leaders Summit held at the Calabar International Convention Center.

According to him, “Nigerian youths are in psychological imprisonment, and for you to be released from these imprisonment meted on you by our so called leaders, you must be courageous, build a formidable force and capacity, seek for right direction and right morals in order to actualize your yearnings for a better country. In Nigeria, when people die, they kill cow, but when a cow dies, they kill people.

“Our oppressors are a new set of political class who blow sirings in the streets, our new set of oppressors are those who budget for education, but send their children abroad, our new set of oppressors are those who take their children out of the field to send them to Havard, but refuse to do anything about the University of Calabar.

“In 2019, we shall look at the university of our intending leaders. If your university does not read UNICAL, Uniben, Auchi Polytechnic, ABU, you will not be our leader.” He solicited.

The preacher turned activist went on to say that the present crop of youths must change the narrative and perception about those in government, stating that “Government is the super structure that provides an environment for citizens to prosper.

“Tell the President that Edo State where I am from, I have no land to give to you, when Ebola came through the airport, the rich people fought it; if it came through ‘ekenedichukwu,’ it wouldn’t have been fought.”

He ended by saying, “We must participate in the process, whether they like it or not, government has to bring the change from top to bottom. We will orchestrate it if they don’t, the promises they gave us today must be fulfilled tomorrow.” Olu said.
