The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Cross River State, Mr. Frankland Briyai, has assured citizens that there will be fairness and transparency during the forthcoming Obudu bye-election.
He gave this assurance in a meeting held at the State INEC Secretariat in Calabar, where he called on party agents and leaders to ascertain the inviolability of the electoral materials being conveyed to Obudu for the forthcoming elections.
In his statement, Mr. Briyai said, “We went together to Central Bank for the sensitive materials, all the party agents here, we want you to ascertain that the materials are properly sealed, we assure you of a transparent, free and fair elections.”
The REC further called on the party agents and aspirants to encourage their supporters to refrain from any form of violence and to maintain peace during the bye-election in Obudu adding that the agents are responsible for safeguarding of the sensitive election materials.
Highlights of the meeting included signing of the election forms by party leaders and inspection of the electoral materials to be conveyed from Calabar to Obudu.
As at the time of filing this report, the materials had left for Obudu.
