Barrister James Ibor, Principal Counsel of Basic Rights Counsel and attorney to Citizen Agba Jalingo has responded to the Court order obtained by the Police to further keep his client behind bar.

The order which was gotten from the Vacation Court Port Harcourt seeks to keep Agba for 90 days more. The date it was gotten hasn’t been confirmed by our newsroom but Jalingo was informed earlier today.

“I have been informed the Police, sponsored by agents of the Cross River State Government have surreptitiously obtained an order of Court to keep him for 90 more days. Their aim and major objective is to END PRESS but they FAIL.”

He went further on his facebook wall to assert that “Governor Ayade takes a page out of President Buhari’s autocratic playbook.”

Agba, Editor-in-Chief and Publisher of CrossRiverWatch was arrested in his Lagos residence on August 22, 2019 by Police personnel following his publication of an article asking Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River to come clean on the whereabouts of the N500 million that was released for the State’s Microfinance bank.

His arrest came on the heels of a Police invitation which was scheduled for September 3rd and Jalingo had repeatedly said he will honor. He remains in detention while activists, civil society organizations among others have clamored for his release.
