Former Vice President of Nigeria, Alhaji Atku Abubakar has intervened in the case of detained journalist cum rights advocate, Agba Jalingo.
Jalingo is facing charges bordering on treason, one of which was an allegation that he was plotting to overthrow the Government of Cross River State.
He was arrested in August 22 2019 by the Cross River State Police Command following a complaint from the State Government that he published an article in an online newspaper, CrossRiverWatch, alleging that the Governor, Sen. Ben Ayade, diverted N500 million meant for the State’s microfinance bank.
In a tweet, Atiku’s spokesman, Segun Showunmi, said his principal is working to get a resolution of the case against Jalingo.
The Cross River State Governor, Sen. Ben Ayade has been heavily criticised (locally and internationally) for his role in Jalingo’s incarceration for exposing corruption in his Government.
See twit;
The Agba Jalingo case is most embarrassing and extremely regrettable. I can assure you all that HE @atiku is working with all parties to get a resolution. As soon as the court is back from its recess, the matter will come to a much more desirable outcome. pic.twitter.com/fv7IsPebxu
