Professor Florence Obi has assumed office as the 11th Vice Chancellor (VC) of the University of Calabar (UNICAL), Calabar.
Professor Obi emerged VC elect on September 10, 2020 beating 12 other contestants.
A professor of special needs education, She is the first female VC of the institution since its establishment 45 years ago.
“Following your success at the interview conducted on Thursday, 10th September, 2020, the Governing Council of the University of Calabar, deriving its authority from the Universities Miscellaneous Provisions (Amendment Act 2003), has approved your appointment as Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar. This appointment which takes effect from 1st December 2020, is for a five (5) year term,” read her appointment letter signed by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Amb. Gabriel Egbe.
Former Cross River Governor, Donald Duke, his wife, traditional rulers and VCs of several Universities were present at her investiture as VC.
Her predecessor, Professor Zana Akpagu was the first alumni of the varsity to become VC and bowed out yesterday.
