Governor Benedict Ayade of Cross River has sacked his Special Adviser on forest security, Thomas Obi Tawo a.k.a ‘General Iron.’

“The State Governor, Prof Ben Ayade has approved the sack, with immediate effect of Mr. Thomas Obi Tawo, aka General Iron, the Special Adviser on Forest Security,” read a statement signed by his spokesman, Mr. Christian Ita and issued on Friday.

General Iron as he is popularly referred to, is said to be on the run after leading a gang to the home of former Assemblyman, Mark Obi, beating him in a manner that has left him comatose.

It remains unclear whether Mr. Obi will survive the assault.

According to the statement, Mr. Tawo is to return all government properties in his possession to the office of the Chief of Staff to the Governor.

Tawo is said to have grown as a thug for hire for politicians and at some point, annexed palm estates in Boki to himself.

His appointment fueled speculations the he had the Governor’s blessings in inflicting mayhem on perceived political enemies and, natives and residents.

This climaxed in the alleged burning of suspected witches under his supervision with the police claiming they were after him.

However, he told CrossRiverWatch in an exclusive interview that he had not received a police invitation.
