Senator Bassey Otu on Friday morning emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Cross River State for the March 2023 general elections.
Otu who represented Cross River Southern District in the seventh National Assembly braved initial fears of his clearance to compete and clinched 811 votes out of the over 900 cast by delegates at the primaries held at the U.J Esuene sports stadium in Calabar.
His closest rival, Senator John Owan-Enoh who informed the electoral panel that he was in the race despite an earlier letter announcing his resignation to contest, polled 84 votes while Barrister Christopher Agara garnered 68 votes representing 8.9 percent and 6.6 percent of the total votes cast.
Addressing his supporters after being declared winner, Senator Otu disclosed that the delegates were dear to him as none had been given a dime to vote for him.
Also, he pledged to work hard and build on the existing policies, programs, and projects of the current administration.
