Traditional rulers in Akpabuyo and Bakassi Local Government Areas of Cross River State have decided to revert to the old traditional methods of curbing crime after a student of the Arthur Jarvis University Akpabuyo was abducted and rescued last week.

The Chairman of the Cross River Traditional Rulers Council, Etiyin Etim Okon Edet who summoned the meeting of the Clan Heads of the different Clans told journalists after the meeting that they are behind the management of the varsity and warned criminal elements to steer clear.

The monarch, who lamented that their forebears who did not go to school were able to govern their kingdoms with zero crime rates such that foodstuffs were left in the market and not stolen, stressed that they will work to revert to the old system, hence the need for all to purge themselves.

“Any traditional ruler who is involved, or the children are involved in any crime or criminality, from now henceforth, the person knows what is going to befall him,” the monarch said.

He continued: “We have been having Governors, Senators, big people, they did not come to establish even primary school and this guy came to establish a University – he did not go to Abuja or what have you and some people are coming to… that is witchcraft, and we are going to stop it.”

On his part, the Chancellor of the institution, Sir Arthur Jarvis Archibong told newsmen that the varsity was grateful for the intervention of the traditional rulers and promised that.
“We want to assure all, especially our children, that we have taken measures to ensure that this will not happen again,” he said.
