A 24-year-old Public Health graduate of the University of Calabar, Goodness Odey, and a 19-year-old Godwin Kevin from Calabar have been announced as two of the 184 recipients of the Diana Award, an award that celebrates the life of the late Princess of Wales, by rewarding and recognizing the work young people are doing in their communities.
The award is given out by the charity of the same name and has the support of both her sons, The Duke of Cambridge and The Duke of Sussex.
Tessy Ojo, CEO of The Diana Award, wrote in an email to the recipients: “We congratulate all our new Diana Award recipients from the UK and all over the globe who are changemakers for their generation.
“We know by receiving this honor they will inspire more young people to get involved in their communities and begin their own journey as active citizens. For over 25 years The Diana Award has valued and invested in young people encouraging them to continue to make positive change in their communities and lives of others.”
The Diana Award was launched by former UK Prime Minister, Gordon Brown in 1999 and is considered the most prestigious accolade a young person aged 9-25 can receive for their social action or humanitarian work.
In a chat with CrossRiverWatch, the award recipients thanked the organizers for finding them worthy and promised to do more.
