A day-old baby boy with a placenta has been dumped on a heap of refuse by an unidentified mother in Calabar, Cross River State capital.

According to eyewitnesses, the pale, lifeless baby was dumped in the wee hours of today, Saturday, November 5, 2022, along the Atimbo road by Express Africana, a few meters away from Atimbo Navy Barracks.

When this reporter got to the scene, four men working for Madox Contraction, a contractor of the State Ministry of Environment, buried the baby in a shallow grave by the gutter.

This reporter was held for hours against his will by the staff of Madox Contraction for taking pictures of the shallow grave just by the roadside.

The shallow grave.

Inquiring why they buried the infant by themselves and in a shallow grave near the road they noted that their bosses from the Ministry of Environment had given them the go-ahead to do so, disclosing that they have been doing so on several occasions.
