The Cross River State Police Command has debunked reports that the Commander of Operation Restore Peace, SP Essien Efoli was attacked by unknown gunmen at the Biase axis of the Ikom – Calabar highway.
It was earlier reported that SP Efoli in the early hours of Monday 13, February 2023 was attacked while returning to Calabar from his hometown Nko.
The State Police Command in a press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Ugbo debunked the attack saying it is “obnoxious information intended to spread fear and panic.”
The Command enjoins the public to go about their normal businesses and support the police with useful information to enable them “smoke out all the local criminal gangs unleashing evil in the State.”
The release reads: “Let me start by thanking all Cross Riverians/good-spirited citizens, media, and eminent security stakeholders for the confidence reposed on the officers and men of the Cross River State Police Command, and through resolute and seamless Nigeria Police Force at large collaborative efforts and sacrifices in securing our dear State.
“The Command hereby advises members of the public to disregard the news currently trending in social media platforms that SP Essien Efoli, Commander Operation Restore Peace, Cross River State Police Command as subversive. Measures are being taken to review the source of this obnoxious information intended to spread fear and panic.
“Consequent upon the above, the Police Command thus warns respective social media and blogging platforms to always cross-check or vet facts from established authorities before sending such unverified, doubtful, and false information.
“Furthermore, the CP calls on residents to continue to support the Police and other sister security agencies in the provision of genuine and actionable intelligence along Ikom/Calabar Highway, especially the communities in Akamkpa, Biase, etc., and its environs to enable the Police smoke out all the local criminal gangs unleashing evil in the state.
“The Police Force in Cross River State will continue to regulate social harmony, ensuring the safety and security of all law-abiding citizens and their properties across the State.
