The Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council, PEBEC, a Federal Government Agency responsible for facilitating the ease of doing business in Nigeria, has listed Cross River as one of the worst States in Nigeria to do business.
In the report made publicly available recently, Cross River State ranked 33 out of 37, with Kogi, Delta, Enugu and Edo as the only states that rank worse than Cross River.
Cross River’s score of 4.99 was below the national average of 5.69, and its current 33 place is 6 places worse than its 2021 ranking of 28.
Launched in July 2016 by President Muhammadu Buhari, the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council works to “remove bureaucratic constraints to doing business in Nigeria, and make the country a progressively easier place to start and grow a business” and the Nigeria Subnational Ease of Doing Business (EODB) Report is an initiative of PEBEC that provides information on the attractiveness of states’ business climates and to serve as a credible reference resource for businesses and investors.
The report uses indices like infrastructure, secure and stable environment, transparency and accessibility of information, regulatory environment, skills and labour, and economic opportunity to rank the States.
