The President and Vice President-elect, Bola Tinubu, and Sen. Shettima have received their Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) a few hours after declared winners.
Tinubu was declared as the President-elect of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the early hours of Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at the National Collation Centre (NCC), Abuja, by the Chairman of INEC – Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.
The 70-years Tinubu polled a total of 8,805,655 votes to defeat his closest challenger and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Atiku Abubakar, who garnered 6,984,520 votes.
Atiku was trailed behind by the candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, who scored 6,098,798 votes, and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) who distantly secured 1,496,687 votes.
The February 25th presidential election was Nigeria’s 7th consecutive presidential election in this 4th Republic since the return of democracy in 1999.
