The Ekorinim village of Calabar Municipal Local Government Area has revoked the power of Attorney it donated to Augustine Edet Nyong.
The community also revoked the power of Mr. Edet Effiong Eyo as the village’s youth and task force leader.
The revocations are contained in two separate letters to the duo, signed by the Secretary of the Ekorinim Town Council, Margaret E. Archibong, and made available to CrossRiverWatch.
In the letter addressed to Mr. Nyong, dated March 30, 2023, and titled, ” Revocation Of Power Of Attorney,” the Ekorinim Town Council advised him to stop parading himself as the Attorney of the village as the power of Attorney donated to him had been revoked and withdrawn in a letter dated September 16, 2022.
“You are advised not to parade yourself as the Attorney of the said Village Council. Consequently, any transaction you carry out affecting Ekorinim Village land, the subject matter of the Power of Attorney is null and void; you are requested to desist from any act of trespass or continuous trespass into the said land in whatever way or manner.
“You are not a native of Ekorinim Village and have no right to interfere with the administration and proceedings of Ekorinim Village Council as a non-member. Your conducts in the community are likely to constitute security threats to the village Council and members of the community.
“You are advised to stop forthwith your unlawful and illegal sales of the community land in whatever guise, as the Ekorinim Village Council is entitled to the customary right of occupancy over all that lands constituting Ekorinim Village.
“The Ekorinim Village Council shall promptly do such lawful things or act, traditionally or otherwise where you refuse to comply with the aforementioned directive,” the letter read.
In a similar vein, the Town Council in her letter to Mr. Eyo dated April 26, 2023, and titled, “Revocation Of Power,” said the action was the agreement of the community.
“You are hereby put on notice that the power assigned to you as the Youth Leader/Task Force Leader by the Town Council has been revoked from this day 26th April 2023.
“This is the agreement of the town council, the youth of Ekorinim, and the entire community.
“This action is taken because your time and period as the youth leader has elapsed and we do not need any problems and chaos in the community again. We need peace.
“You are advised to stop parading yourself as the youth leader or whatsoever from this day 26th April 2023.
“Consequently, any action, or transaction you carry out that affects Ekorinim Community and land from this day shall be treated seriously in the court of law.
“The Ekorinim Village Council shall promptly do such lawful things or act, traditionally or otherwise where you refused to comply with the aforementioned directives,” the letter read.
