The Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Hon. Peter Odey has felicitated the management, staff, and students of the University of Cross River State, UNICROSS, for getting approval from the National Universities Commission, NUC, to commence seventeen new programs in the institution.
They are broadcasting, journalism and media studies, marketing, animal and environmental biology, plant science, microbiology, and library and information science.
Others are human kinetics, information systems, peace studies, sociology, entrepreneurship, banking and finance, software engineering, early childhood education, economics, and industrial chemistry.
Reflecting on his days in the Assembly, he posited, “It can be recalled that in 2021 as Leader of the 9th Cross River State House of Assembly, I sponsored a bill for the change of name from Cross River University of Technology, CRUTECH to University of Cross River State, UNICROSS which was assented to on Monday, February 15, 2021.
“The idea behind the change of name was to expand the programs in the University. Having a change of name was necessary in order to accommodate courses not limited to the former nomenclature( CRUTECH). This is a laudable achievement worthy of commendation. We hope to get approval for Law and Medicine soon.
“The Senator Prince Bassey Otu-led administration will continue to support and develop UNICROSS and launch the institution into a leading citadel of learning in Africa.”
