Youths of Bebuabie Community in Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River State have allegedly resisted and prevented the outgoing Obudu primary health care Coordinator, Christiana Akeke, from carting away equipment in the facility.
In video footage obtained by CrossRiverWatch, youths, and elderlies who spoke in their native language are seen questioning and trying to prevent the Coordinator from making away with the equipment.
A reliable source told CrossRiverWatch that “Akeke arrived at the Bebuabie Primary Health Center October 21, 2023, in the evening in a marked PHC Toyota Hiace bus with a registered number CR 876 A0 1 along with other cohorts to cart away beds and other valuables, claiming she was taking them for repairs without the consent of anyone in the community including the resident nurse.”
The source added: “Information quickly spread and she was accosted by the community youths who accused her of coming to loot the equipment.”
The youth claimed she had “taken away the solar panels, batteries and other electrical appliances provided for the PHC by the government some months ago under the same guise and never returned them,” as they vowed not to let her repeat the same.
Mrs. Christiana is also accused of “trying to cash out at the last minute by selling PHC equipment”, under her control as she approaches retirement.
Another source further alleged that the Coordinator sold most of the beds and other materials from the PHC to one John Joe alias ‘Jungle Joe’ who operates a school of Health Technology by Dam Road.
