Governor Otu Bans Incessant Display Of Masquerades In Calabar Metropolis

The Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu has cautioned traffic offenders and banned the incessant display of masquerades in Calabar metropolis.

In a press release signed and issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Emmanuel Ogbeche, dated November 21, 2023, with reference number GO/PRESS/012/VOL.II/274 frowned at the unnecessary display of masquerades in the heart of the city.

This is coming as some youths mask themselves, patrol the city, and harass residents.

In another development, the release also warned private and commercial drivers to adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations and desist from driving against the traffic.

The Governor added that failure to adhere to the traffic rules, especially in the metropolis will be made to face the full wrath of the law.

It reads in parts: “The Cross River State Government has observed with dismay the incessant display of masquerades in the Calabar metropolis and frowns seriously at it.

“To this end, all forms of masquerade display, except on special days/occasions or as mainly authorized by relevant government or traditional institutions, is hereby banned.

“Similarly, the government wishes to inform all road users to adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations and desist from driving against the traffic.

“Violators are hereby warned to take this caution seriously as anyone caught disobeying this directive will be made to face the full wrath of the law.”
