The Suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu was denied access to see President Bola Ahmad Tinubu, shortly she was suspended indefinitely over alleged financial misconduct.
The under-fire suspended Minister was under investigation over alleged N44 billion fraud at the National Social Investment Program Agency (NSIPA).
A statement on Monday 8, January 2024 signed by presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale announcing her suspension said Tinubu’s decision was in line with the President’s avowed commitment to uphold the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability in the management of the commonwealth of Nigerians.
The former All Progressive Congress (APC) National Women Leader, Edu, is expected to honor an invitation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday, January 9th following Tinubu’s directive for a thorough investigation.
Meanwhile, the EFCC quizzed Edu’s predecessor, Sadiya Farouq, on Monday, over an alleged laundering of N37.1 billion during her tenure as a minister under the administration of ex-President Muhammadu
Farouq was still at the office of the EFCC as of 6:pm on Monday.
