The Cross River State Command of the Nigerian Police Force has said it will begin arrests and trials of traffic light offenders and reckless driving in Calabar metropolis.
The Command disclosed this in a press release signed and made available by the Force Police Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Ugbo for the Commission of Police – CP Gyogon Augustine Grimah, reminding all road users that obeying traffic rules and regulations is crucial for the safety of everyone on the road, as reckless driving not only endangers lives of drivers but also poses threats to pedestrians and other road users.
“The Cross River State Police Command wishes to address the issues of reckless driving and the abuse of traffic lights in the State. It has come to the attention of the Commissioner of Police, Cross River State, CP G.A Grimah, psc, FCAI that there has been a significant increase in the number of road accidents caused by reckless driving and disregard for traffic lights.”
CP Grimah warned that the Command will intensify efforts to ensure that those found guilty of reckless driving and abuse of traffic lights are brought to justice.
“The CP hereby reminds all road users that obeying traffic rules and regulations is crucial for the safety of everyone on the road. Reckless driving not only endangers the lives of the drivers but also poses a threat to pedestrians and other road users.”
He urges all motorists to drive responsibly and respect traffic signals.
“The Police Command will be intensifying efforts to ensure that those found guilty of reckless driving and abuse of traffic lights are brought to justice. We urge all motorists to drive responsibly and respect traffic signals being introduced by the Government of Cross River State to prevent unnecessary accidents and loss of lives.
“Let’s all work together to make our roads safer for everyone now and always, please.”
