In view of the upcoming local government elections scheduled for November 2, 2024, the Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, CP Gyogon Augustine Grimah, has ordered the restriction of movement across all the 18 Local Government Areas of Cross River State.

The restriction will take effect from 12:00AM midnight of November 2, 2024 to 6:00 PM same day.

According to the Police Command, the restriction is implemented to ensure the smooth and secure conduct of the electoral process, allowing citizens to exercise their voting rights peacefully.

In a press release issued by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO) SP Irene Ugbo, only those on essential duties – medical personnel, accredited election observers, media and security personnel, will be permitted to move within restricted areas. All other movements within the state are prohibited during the period.

“Members of the public are urged to adhere strictly to the directive and avoid any actions that may disrupt the peace or compromise the success of the elections,” Police warned, adding that the Command will work closely with sister security agencies to enforce the restriction and to ensure the safety of lives and property throughout the election period.

CP Grimah appeals to citizens to remain law-abiding and cooperate fully with the law enforcement agencies, while assuring the public of the Command’s commitment to a peaceful and credible election process in Cross River State.
