The Cross River State House of Assembly has upheld the suspension of Hon. Kingsley Agbor Ekuri, the Councilor representing Ajassor Ward in Etung Local Government Area, over allegations of misconduct, insubordination, and threats to the peace of the Local Government.
The suspension, initially imposed by the Etung Legislative Council, was confirmed after a hearing led by the member representing Bakassi in the Cross River State House of Assembly, Hon. Eyo Bassey, Chairman of the Assembly’s Committee on Local Government. The investigation centered on revenue management issues and Hon. Ekuri’s alleged violation of established authority within the council.
It is alleged that Ekuri did not only challenged the Chairman of Etung LGA over revenue allocation but also assaulted the Special Adviser on Security to the Chairman and a show of disrespect to the Leader of the Council.
Present at the hearing were key stakeholders, including the Chairman of Etung LGA, Hon. Henry Njar Anom, the Leader of the Legislative Council, and the Special Adviser on Peace and Security, all of whom presented evidence of the councilor’s disruptive actions.
Announcing the Assembly’s resolution, Speaker of the Assembly Honourable Elvert Ayambem said Ekuri’s conduct amounted to gross misconduct, warranting both his suspension and immediate arrest; directing security operatives to arrest and detain him for further investigation into his role in destabilizing peace in Ajassor and the wider Etung LGA.
He was arrested shortly after the Assembly hearing. This was disclosed by the Chief Press Secretary to Speaker of the Assembly, Matthew Okache.
