Man Feared Dead, 29 Hospitalized As Cross River Nursing College Bus Crashes

30 members of the Knight of the Catholic Church, on board the Coastal bus belonging to the Cross River State College of Nursing, Ogoja has crashed leaving 29 hospitalized and a 70 year-old man from Ogoja LGA, Mr. Elliot Ushie Agana dead.

Mr. Eliot lost his life in the ghastly motor accident that occurred along UNIZIK Temporary Site Junction Awka, involving one coaster and 18-seater bus.

Findings reveal that the coaster bus carrying members of Knight of the Catholic Church, left Ogoja in Cross River State, for Abatete, Idemili North council area of Anambra State, to attend the burial ceremony of one of their member, the late Dr. Ezigbo Sunny but met the unplanned event on the way.

One of the accident survivor Pastor Christian Ikere, explained they noticed the coaster bus was having brake problems when they were leaving Ogoja for Anambra and that, despite every pleas to the driver to work on the brakes, he turned deaf ears which resulted in the crash.

Another passenger, Mr. Chidiebere Chukwu also explained they left in convoy of three coasters to be part of the burial ceremony, adding that the one involved in the accident lost control of the brakes and was waving at other vehicles on motion to clear the road to avoid accident, but on getting to UNIZIK junction, an inter-city commercial vehicle loading along the road was hit by the coaster, causing the accident.

The deceased has been deposited in a morgue, as at press time, while the 29 other passengers are receiving treatment at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka.
