Nurses and midwives have shut the entrance to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, UCTH, while protesting the arrest of three of their colleagues.
Numbering over 100, and donning their white gowns, the nurses embarked on a protest, downing tools on Tuesday morning with some patients wondering what their fate is.
“Nurses Save Lives, Stop The Harassment,” read one placard which is targeted at the Nigerian Police whom on Monday arrested their colleagues after a stranger who was cared for, died, with relatives claiming his sim card was missing on his device when they came to retrieve his properties.
Staff say the nurses had informed the relative that they only handed over what a good Samaritan who had brought in the stranger gave to them.

The blockade has left many motorists trying to gain access to, and exiting the tertiary medical facility stranded.
They are planning to take the protest to the State Command of the Nigerian Police Force at Diamond Hill.
