After Project Commissioning Controversy, State Government Set Panel To Probe

By Sylvia Akpan, Government House Correspondent

Following the controversies that have trailed the commissioning of some projects in Calabar, the Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu, has set up a commission of judicial inquiry into the disruptions.

There are allegations of project unveiling disruption hosted by the Management of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in Calabar Metropolis on 13th June, 2025, which have sparked online and offline accusations as to who owns the project.

In a press release signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Anthony Owan Enoh, on Monday, June 16, 2025, said the constituted Commission is saddled with the responsibility of identifying the perpetrators and making appropriate recommendations for further disciplinary or criminal proceedings.

They include Hon. Justice Emilia Ibok as the Chairman, Akwaji Ikong Ogbang, Esq., Mrs. Mary Akpet, and James A. Oyi, Esq., as members. While Barr. Mrs. Stella Iki is the Secretary.

The Commission is to conclude its inquiry and submit its report on or before July 1, 2025.
