The Police have filed a one-count charge against former Governor Ben Ayade’s aide, Kingsley Ikpeme, bordering on defamation under the Cybercrimes Act for calling his kinsman, Tony Ikpeme “evil genius” and “coup plotter” on a village WhatsApp group.
In suit number FHC/CA/309C/2025, signed by DSP Otu Ubangha, Esq., and filed November 14, 2025, the Federal Republic of Nigeria is listed as complainant, while Kingsley Ita Ikpeme, 43, is listed as the defendant.
The charge reads: “That you, Kingsley Ita Ikpeme ‘m’, sometime between September and October 2025, at Eniong Abatim Cornmunity, Odukpani, within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court; with intent that it may be read or seen by Mr. Tony Ikpeme or by any other person, did defame his character by calling him evil genius and coup plotter through publications in the social media platform created by Eniong Abatim Community, the allegation you made to be false and with intent to damage his reputation and thereby committed an offence punishable under, section 24(2)(a)(c)(II) of the Cybercrimes (Prevention Prohibition) Act 2015 (as Amended 2024).”
The defendant served as Director General of the Greater Calabar City Development Authority while the nominal complainant served as head of the Community Social Development Agency.
