The Cross River State Police Command says a suspected gang member, Michael Michael Edoh, has been arrested during a routine security sweep in Calabar, the state capital.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) CSP Ugbo Irene, said the suspect was apprehended around the Jonathan Bypass axis, Calabar.
According to the police, the suspect who is a resident of No. 136 IBB Way, was flagged down by officers near the Garment Factory after his conduct drew suspicion as he attempted to enter the city.
The Commander disclosed that a thorough search was carried out, leading to the discovery of a locally fabricated pistol and three live cartridges in his possession and had onfessed to owning the weapon and admitted being a member of the Viking confraternity during questioning.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Rashid Afegbua , meanwhile, had praised the operatives for the effective operation, noting that heightened patrol presence and deliberate deployment of stop-and-search units at key hotspots areas have continued to bolster the state’s security profile.
The State Police Boss emphasized that the Command remains fully prepared to safeguard lives and property throughout the state, especially during the yuletide season. He enjoined the public to stay compliant with the law and collaborate with security agencies, even as the Command reiterated its commitment to sustaining proactive security measures to keep Cross River safe.
