The Cross River State Police Command has strengthened its campaign for the protection of the girl child through a school outreach program organized by the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV).

The outreach, held at Holy Child’s Girls Secondary School, Calabar, on October 12, 2026, was organized to commemorate the International Day of the Girl Child and promote child protection, positive values and proactive crime prevention among young people.

The program is implemented by the State POCACOV Coordinator, ASP Isiwu Marvellous, under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue.

During the engagement, students were sensitized on the Child Rights Act, with emphasis on their rights to education, dignity and protection from abuse, exploitation and discrimination.

They were educated on the dangers associated with cultism, drug abuse, negative peer pressure and other social vices, while being encouraged to develop self-confidence, discipline and responsible decision-making skills.

As part of the outreach, exercise books were distributed to the students to support their education and encourage academic participation.

The Police Command said the initiative reflects its broader approach to crime prevention, which includes public enlightenment, early intervention and constructive engagement with young people, in addition to conventional law enforcement.

The CP reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting children, promoting safer learning environments and strengthening collaboration with schools, parents, community leaders and other stakeholders.

The Command also urged parents, teachers and members of the public to remain vigilant and provide appropriate guidance to children, while promptly reporting cases of abuse, exploitation, cultism and other criminal activities to the Police.

The Command said it would continue to promote public safety through proactive policing, community partnerships and sustained engagement with young people across the state.
