Corruption: Local Government Service Commission Board Dissolved Over Recruitment Scandal

By Kelvin Ololo

The Executive Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Bassey Otu has ordered the immediate dissolution of the Board of the Local Government Service Commission following confirmed reports of gross abuse of office and widespread employment racketeering in the Commission’s recruitment exercise.

In a press statement issued on Monday by the Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Linus Obogo, the Governor described the actions uncovered as deeply troubling, noting that they represent a betrayal of public trust and a clear affront to the ethics of public service.

Governor Otu reaffirmed that the compromised recruitment process remains suspended as earlier directed. He said a fresh, transparent, and merit-driven exercise will be undertaken to ensure adherence to the administration’s uncompromising standards.

The Governor emphasized zero tolerance for corruption and pledged his continued commitment to restoring public confidence in government institutions.

He maintained that his administration will not hesitate to take decisive action against any conduct capable of undermining integrity and due process within the public service.
