Police in Cross River State, has confirmed the death of a 30 years old man identified as Alkama Mohammed, from electrocution.
He was suspected to have attempting vandalising a high tension cable in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, when the tragedy struck.
Police sources confirm that on the 5th of February, 2026, the Divisional Police Officer of Federal Housing Division was alerted that a corpse was lying at Matrix Petrol Station, off Murtala Mohammed Highway, within an uncompleted building located beneath a high-tension electric pole.
Upon receipt of the information, police operatives immediately visited the scene where the lifeless body of the deceased was. Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased believe to hail from Kwade Village in Quanpan Local Government Area of Plateau State, was vandalizing high-tension electric cables when death knocked.
An iron saw blade suspected to have been used for the vandalization was recovered at the scene beside his remains. Further observations showed visible burns and scars consistent with electric shock injuries on the left wrist and under the abdomens.
The body was found to have fallen from the concrete electric pole after the electrocution.
Health workers from the Calabar Municipal Local Government Area were promptly contacted and necessary actions were taken.
Meanwhile, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Cross River State Command, ASP Sunday Eitokpah Akata, assured that, “Investigation into the incident is ongoing.
“The Command once again warns members of the public against acts of vandalism and other criminal activities, especially those that pose serious risks to lives and public infrastructure.”
