From behind the camera to behind the microphone, Cross River-based cinematographer and photographer Oto-obong Clement, popularly known as Walata Worldwide, has ventured into music with a political track titled “Otu Legacy,” expressing support for Governor Bassey Otu’s bid for a second term in 2027.
Clement, who spoke to CrossRiverWatch during an exclusive interview on the sidelines of one of his campaign outings, said the song was inspired by what he described as the need to counter what he considers misleading and unconstructive narratives about Cross River State and the governor, particularly across social media.
According to him, his decision to move from the camera to the microphone was also influenced by his belief that entertainers have a responsibility to use their platforms to address issues affecting society.
“As an entertainer, I owe the public the responsibility to correct ills and speak against what is not good using my position,” he said.
The track traces the political history of Cross River State from the genesis of current democratic era – 1999 to 2026, while presenting Clement’s interpretation of the state’s development journey and the role citizens can play alongside government in building the state.

“Otu Legacy” also highlights what the celebrity photographer – Oto-obong considers achievements of the Otu administration and promotes the governor’s 2027 re-election bid, with the song adopting the campaign slogan that there is “no vacancy” at the Government House.
Oto-obong’s campaign comes amid growing political activity around Governor Otu’s second-term bid. Several groups and political stakeholders in Cross River have publicly expressed support for his re-election, while other political actors and groups continue to present different views about the direction of the state ahead of the 2027 elections.
For Mr. Oto-obong however, the campaign is not limited to recording the song.
He said he intends to take “Otu Legacy” to the streets of Calabar and continue promoting the message through his social media platforms as the 2027 election beckon.
“Every day I will be on the street running campaign with this song for Prince Bassey Otu,” he said.
The move marks a different intersection between entertainment and politics, as he seeks to deploy his creative background and public visibility to participate in the political conversation.
While his latest work is openly partisan in support of Otu, the talented image maker said his broader message is about citizens taking responsibility for the kind of society they want to build, rather than leaving development solely to government.
With “Otu Legacy,” Walata Worldwide has therefore traded his familiar cinematography lens for a microphone, turning his creative platform into a vehicle for political expression ahead of the 2027 governorship contest in Cross River.
