The excitement surrounding the sign-out activities of final-year students of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) on Thursday and Friday September 17 and 18 2026, has been followed by an investigation after a viral video emerged showing a man firing a gun from a moving vehicle in Calabar.
In the footage, a man dressed in a white shirt with a red head covering is seen opening the back door of a moving black Jeep and fired sporadically into the air. Several persons appear to be clearing the way for the vehicle as it moves through the area.
The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old suspect – Emmanuel Ejim Ejim, in connection with the video, according to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eitokpah Sunday.
In a statement issued on Saturday, September 19, the PPRO said the video was believed to have been recorded in the early hours of September 17, the same day some UNICROSS final-year students were engaged in sign-out activities after their examinations.
The police said the Commissioner of Police, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, ordered the immediate identification and arrest of persons connected with the incident after the video began circulating.

According to the statement, at about 11:30 p.m. on Thursday September 17, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, and operatives of the Violence Crime Response Unit commenced an intelligence-led operation that led to the identification and tracking of the vehicle captured in the video.
The driver of the vehicle was subsequently arrested, while information obtained during the operation reportedly assisted the police in tracing another suspect to a hotel in Calabar.
According to the Police, during questioning the suspect – Emmanuel Ejim Ejim identified himself as a student of UNICROSS, and as one of the leaders of the Vikings Confraternity.
The Command further said the suspect admitted to being the person seen firing the shots in the viral footage.
According to the police account, Ejim also told investigators that he had participated in a sign-out activity on the day of the incident and that the pistol used in the video was handed to him by another suspected member of the group.
The police said the circumstances surrounding the possession of the firearm, the movement of the vehicle and the involvement of other persons remain under investigation.
