Re: Ndoma Egba Sour Grapes: The Limit Of Desperate Political Moves BY NEJI AFOR
My attention has been drawn to a piece by one Neji Afor published in an online medium, CrossRiverWatch in which he made very wild allegations in an attempt to cast aspersions on my person and the integrity of the Senate leader, the very distinguished Sen. Victor Ndoma –Egba SAN.
In times of high political activity like what is currently transpiring in the Central Senatorial District of Cross River State, it does not require someone with uncommon common sense or one adept in political analysis to know that some desperate fellows while seeking for bits of personal lucre would go to any length to malign others to satisfy their paymasters.
To such people, so long as they are given some tasks, no matter how odious and ignoble such roles are, as long as such roles afford them a bit of bread for their stomachs for that hour, they can go all out to stake their necks and rob their nostrils on the anus of a dog not minding the import or consequences of their actions to their lives, thereafter.
Ordinarily, it is not in my character to join issues with political jobbers and small minds as the writer has presented himself but since my name is mentioned in the piece, I have a duty to correct this tissue of lies. I would not have bothered to mention the arrant rubbish in that publication to anyone else talk much of writing this piece.
However, since in our clime, silence is often not taken as golden but a concurrence with the information being peddled, I have chosen this same medium, CrossRiverWatch to correct the deliberate falsehoods contained therein particularly as I have received several phone calls from friends, political associates and acolytes who have sought to know why the attempt to drag my name in the mud in that piece.
In the 7th paragraph of the jumbled piece, Afor wrote that “The senator’s boys this time controlled by “mature” Victor Abang an aide to the Senate President made a more spirited attempt to stop Hon. Enoh from entering kakwagom.
“Thugs were armed with guns, machetes and other dangerous weapons. They shot sporadically into the air. They failed in this gambit as Owan Enoh successfully attended the service.”
The irrational and unfair dragging of my name here by Afor betrays his ignorance and hatchet intentions towards me.
For the avoidance of doubt, the 7th of September, 2014 was the 10th anniversary of the demise of my younger sister, Juliet Nkanem Abang who passed on in 2004. As an elder sibling, I thought it necessary to organise a memorial / thanksgiving service in her honour on the 6th and 7th of September 2014. The anniversary service took place at St Patrick’s Catholic Church, Kakwagom with a reception in my compound, at Nkpat, Bawop, Boki Local Government Area while the thanksgiving service held on Sunday, 7th September at St Joseph’s Catholic Church, Bawop, Central Boki.
The Memorial Service of 6th went smoothly along with the reception that took place in my house with hundreds of people in attendance. The Thanksgiving Service held on Sunday was at Bawop.
At the thanksgiving on the 7th, Hon. Owan Enoh’s colleague representing Boki/Ikom Rt. Hon Chris Eta and several Boki elites were in attendance. I spent the whole day in Bawop with them unaware that Hon. Owan Enoh had a thanksgiving service to attend at Kakwagom.
How could I have “made attempts” to stop Hon. Owan Enoh from entering Kakwegom when I and my associates were busy receiving guests attending my own thanksgiving mass?
How did we “make attempt” to stop him when other eminent Boki elites passed through the same route to honour my invitation?
That Hon. Owan Enoh successfully attended the service without any negative incidence put a lie to Neji Afor’s script and passed it for a very poor hatchet job.
It was much later that I got information that some young people in Kakwagom were framed up and arrested for no reason by people who claim to be the friends of Hon. Enoh and the community insisted that the boys should be released as they (Enoh’s friends) cannot force people to support their cause.
So for Afor to claim that I gave the boys guns and machetes to attack Owan Enoh is nothing but a puerile, tendentious blackmail which he has no prove and I therefore demand a retraction and an apology. Failure which I will instruct my lawyers to commence legal actions against him.
He also made futile attempts to portray Senator Ndoma-Egba as being desperate. This cannot be true. The distinguished Senator is a man of unquestionable integrity rising to his present position through hard work and the grace of God.
He didn’t become a commissioner in the old Cross River State at 27 through desperation. He didn’t set up a successful legal practice through desperation. He didn’t become a Senator through desperation. He didn’t become a Senior Advocate of Nigeria through desperation.
He didn’t become Senate leader, member of PDP National caucus, NEC through desperation. He will God willing be re-elected to the Senate not through desperation as Neji Afor will want the reading public to believe but by his sterling performance, the collective will , resolve and votes of the people of the central senatorial district.
I appeal to CrossRiverWatch not to allow political jobbers to use its highly respected medium to spread falsehood and abuse the privilege of social media.
Thank you
