Cross River State governor, Senator Liyel Imoke, has charged the Nigeria Police and other security agencies in the state to join forces in ensuring the immediate and safe release of Chief Dominic Aqua Edem who was recently kidnapped by unknown gunmen in Calabar.

and immediate past Commissioner representing the state on the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) is the Labor Party candidate for the Akpabuyo/Bakassi/Calabar South Federal Constituency in the April 28, 2015 General Elections was kidnapped by unknown gunmen in his Calabar South residence on Sunday, 14th March, 2015.
In a press statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Chief Akin Ricketts, on behalf of the state Governor, Senator Liyel Imoke, declared emphatically that “Government totally condemns this barbaric and heinous crime against humanity. The Nigerian Police Force as well as other security agencies must move in swiftly to effect the unconditional release of Rt. Hon Edem and subsequent apprehension of all those behind this criminal act.”
Chief Ricketts who described the incident as unfortunate and a strange happening in the state since the inception of the present administration maintained that “Government is saddened by the emergence of this trend in the state, which completely negates the peaceful as well as hospitable tradition of Cross River people and hereby advises residents of the state to be weary of suspicious movement of unknown persons and vehicles in and around their vicinity.”
Continuing, Rickett said: “Government hereby appeals to the conscience of all those behind this inhuman act to respect the sanctity of human life as created by God and unconditionally release Rt. Hon. Edem without delay.”
