CrossRiverWatch has reliably gathered that Chief Alex Egbona, a former Chief of Staff to the erstwhile governor of Cross River State, Senator Liyel Imoke is presently cooling his feet at the EFCC detention facility in Abuja.

Our source said Egbona was arrested by operatives from the anti graft commission earlier today and he is presently held in preparation for interrogation.

Details of his arrest were not immediately clear but CrossRiverWatch learnt that it may not be unconnected to a petition by allies of the former governor against his former Chief of Staff.

Imoke and Egbona are long time political allies and kinsmen from Abi LGA in Cross River but the duo fell out after Egbona unsuccessful insisted on battling for a PDP ticket to the House of Representatives against Imoke’s support for Hon. Bassey Ewah.

Having lost at the tribunal and the appeal court in a legal battle to unseat Hon. Bassey Ewah, Egbona left the PDP for APC in what Imoke considers a challenge to his control of Abi politics from someone he kept as his Chief of Staff for eight years and made very rich too.

But some supporters of the detained former Chief of Staff say that if Imoke thinks that Alex Egbona will go down alone, he should stop dreaming.

One of them who spoke to CrossRiverWatch under anonymity said, “Yes, it’s true that he is presently in detention and we are making contacts with lawyers to begin the process of getting him out. But if the former governor, Imoke, who is angry that Chief Alex has decided to decamp to APC and wants to witch hunt him, thinks that Chief Alex will go down alone, then he has also forgotten that the man was his chief of staff for eight years. He should stop dreaming and stop digging his own grave.”

You guys should spare me this. Alex left PDP since two years ago to labour party, Imoke did not get angry, was also not perturb by the fact that Alex was against him, he saw it as a part of life. I Wonder what connection labour party decamped to APC has got to do with the unassuming gentleman of the 21st century called Imoke…. Pls spare me this fallacy of hasty conclusions.
