The Navy Sergeant who is currently cooling his heels in cell at the Cross River State Criminal Investigation Department, (CID) for stabbing the police corporal with a dagger attributed the killing to the devil.

The ugly incident reportedly started when the naval personnel, who was driving in a Toyota Camry car bashed his car against that of one Mrs. Bassey which resulted in an argument when the woman insisted that Edet must pay for the damage done to her car.

Then naval personnel allegedly felt insulted by the woman’s insistence and brushed off the old woman’s challenge calling her “A bloody civilian” and threatened to create a scene if she continued to demand that he should repair her dented car.

An eye witness told crossriverwatch that the sergeant attempted to ignore the woman and made efforts to get into his car and zoom off, “but the crowd that had gathered stopped him and said he should appease the woman before leaving”.

Sensing that the naval personal was not going to bulge, she put a phone call across to her husband intimating him of the development, and her spouse decided to phone the Akim Area Police Command, soliciting for their intervention in the matter.

Crossriverwatch gathered that a police detachment was sent to the scene in an official vehicle to invite the naval personnel to the station but that was to no avail, as Edet was bent on rushing home.

Corporal Agida and one of his friends who were on their way back from watching the Nigeria-Burkina Faso match incidentally joined the crowd in appealing to the Naval officer to follow the woman to the police station, where the matter will be resolved.

When Edet discovered that Agida and his friends are also policemen, he reportedly got angry, accusing Agida of insulting him and interfering in a matter he is not well informed about.

In what appeared as transfer of aggression, the Edet suddenly dashed into his car and brought out a dagger, stabbed Corporal Agida and opened a hole in his stomach which saw in his entrails falling off.

Agida reportedly died at the scene.

Realising he has committed murder, Edet started wailing, ‘’My wife o My children o’’

Agida joined the Nigeria police in 2009. He is married to Mrs. Mercy Agida and they have two children while the wife is said to be two months pregnant.

The Police Public Relations Officer for the Cross River Police Command, DSP John Umoh told crossriverwatch that Edet has been arrested and would soon be charged to Court.
