The state owned Rovers football club of Calabar will henceforth play its home matches in the newly constructed Ikom township stadium says Cross River Sports Commissioner, Asu Okang.
Asu disclosed this in an interview with AIT’s Rasheed Olanrewaju Wednesday in Ikom where he also explained the reason behind the newly launched “Thumps up Ayade” project.
“Beyond the fact that His Excellency directed in his wisdom and magnanimity that we should get this (Governor’s cup) competition back to Ikom township stadium to bring life back to the people of the central, He has also said that all matches for Rovers football club will now be moved from Calabar to Ikom township Stadium” Asu said.
On the thumps up Ayade project, Asu said that the initiative is aimed at celebrating the ideologies and achievements of the governor.
“The thumps up Ayade project is basically to showcase the projects of His Excellency the digital governor of Cross River State. He has been very magnificent to the young people of Cross River State with over 1,600 appointments still counting in a time where you have a depressing economy, in a time when you have recessing economy. It is very important that we celebrate this man who out of nothingness has also deemed it fit in his own theory and in his own words, you must always provide a shoulder for your brother to lean on.
“It is a platform which we are going to be celebrating the ideals, the praxis, the believes, the trends of (governor Ben Ayade) overtime.
“His Excellency has directed in his own words that we should have all the competitions inside the Ikom township Stadium just to decentralize the concentration on Calabar metropolis as the capital of the state. We are bringing life back to the people of the central who ordinarily have become or in fact are like the political nerve center, the economic nerve center and the social nerve center of Cross River State” Asu said.
Governor Ben Ayade had on Wednesday, commenced a 5 day tour of the central and northern senatorial districts with his first point of call being Ikom where he tactically rejected a stadium presentation, kicked off the governor’s cup before departing late in the evening for the Obudu mountain resort where he arrived at about 12:01 AM on Thursday.
