Justice Ofem Ikpi Ofem of the Cross River State High Court in Calabar today dispelled rumours of his kidnap by unknown assailants.
In remarks while giving his ruling on the notice of preliminary objection challenging the jurisdiction of the Court by CROSIEC, the Judge expressed dismay over the tension and apprehension generated in the State over the anticipated ruling.
The ruling which was fixed for 9 a.m. this morning saw large crowds of supporters of both the All Progressives Congress APC and the People’s Democratic Party PDP arriving the court with great apprehension.
The judge however did not arrive the Court until 1p.m. while sitting began at 1:30pm; but before his arrival, rumours had began to circulate that he has been kidnapped by some unknown assailants in connection with the expected ruling.
Confirming the rumours, Justice Ikpi said: “My family members made several calls to me to find out if it was true that I was kidnapped. People in the State should be calm because there is nothing so special about this case. The matters before the Court can be litigated up to the Supreme Court. I arrived late because I was busy writing the ruling and that took time since arguments by parties were concluded only yesterday”.
