COVID19: CRUTECH Shutdown, ASUU Joins Indefinite Strike

The management of Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH) has suspended first semester academic activities owing to the coronavirus pandemic, as Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) CRUTECH Chapter proceeds on indefinite strike.

However, the indefinite closure and suspension of activities in the State’s owned University was stated in circular No. 303 released by the office of the Registrar and signed by the Deputy Registrar, Victor E. Ene, is to take effect from Tuesday 24th March 2020.

It reads in part:

“This is in line with similar measures taken by the Federal Government of Nigeria as well as various other State Governments in the country. These measures include the closure of schools and institutions.

“Consequently, the management of Cross River University of Technology in compliance with the directives of the State Government has taken the following decisions; academic activities of the University for the first semester 2019/2020 academic session has been suspended with effect from Tuesday 24th of March 2020, students are to proceed on indefinite break immediately and Students who reside in the campus should vacate the halls on or before the close of work on Wednesday 25 March, 2020.”

In the same light, ASUU CRUTECH chapter arising from a congress yesterday held at ETF1 have joined the national body on an indefinite strike after their two weeks warning strike.

A source who attended the congress inferred that the action is in line with the directive from the national body of the union.

Notwithstanding, academic activities in the metropolis are at a stand still as students were seen returning from their various schools at early hours of the day.
