Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River on Tuesday undertook a tour of the Calabar Free Trade Zone.
While there, he visited a cashew nut processing factory.
Mr. Ayade also visited the office of the Nigerian Ports Authority where he interacted with the Port Manager and Harbor Master.
He was accompanied by the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Eteng Jones; the Speaker of the eight Assembly and Special Envoy to the Gulf of Guinea, Hon. John Lebo and a few other aides.
Very little is known about his trip to the facility with Press Statements about his activities often delayed for days in order to check for errors that may backfire.
The Calabar channel is the longest in Nigeria at nearly 100km long. Efforts to dredge the channel to allow for bigger vessels has proved abortive as procurement processes have remained controversial.
Mr. Ayade had promised to construct a deep seaport which has suffered several setbacks with very little information about its procurement process made public.
