Two students in the Faculty of Law of the University of Calabar who were abducted on July 1, 2021 have remained in captivity.

The duo are, Okoi Ikpi Itam Jr (pictured), son of the late former Chief Judge of the High Court of Cross River State, Justice Okoi Ikpi Itam and Vincent Iwang, a native of Obubra Local Government Area. Itam hails from neighboring Yakurr Local Government Area.

Details remain sketchy how the duo were kidnapped as authorities are yet to comment on the issue.

Cross River was on the news for a period of over 30 months for continuous kidnapping for ransom. Several notable personalities were abducted and released with ace broadcaster, Petertex “The Godfada” Etim remaining in captivity since January 11, 2019 while the Police said they can’t confirm if he is dead or alive.

The State Chairman of the Nigerian Labor Congress, Comrade Ben Ukpepi was kidnapped within 18 months and for the second ordeal, spent over two months in captivity. When released, he said ransom was raised by friends, associates and family with little or no effort from the Government.
