Arthur Jarvis University, the first private university in Cross River State, has held a convocation ceremony for 240 graduates of the institution and has installed Goddy Jeddy-Agba, the Minister Of State, Power, as Chairman, Board of Trustees (BOT) of the university located in Akpabuyo.
Speaking at the convocation ceremony, Jedy-Agba thanked the management and staff of the University for finding him worthy to serve as the second-ever BOT chairman of the institution.
He pledged the board under him will ensure that all necessary fiduciary duties of the institution are promoted to the extent of placing it on the platform of being rated as one of the best Universities in Africa.
According to him, “I am quite grateful to the Management of this great University for having considered me relevant in your process of knowledge building; and entrusted me with the challenging role of Chairman, Board of Trustees.
“I am very conscious of the enormous task underlying this role, especially the important need to enforce the fundamental responsibilities of providing sound governance, fiduciary and strategic oversight, and direction for this University.
“I hereby promise stakeholders of Arthur Jarvis University that as Chairman, Board of Trustees, I’ll ensure that the board lives up to expectations,” he said.
Earlier, the Chancellor of the University, Sir Authur Jarvis Archibong commended the Minister for accepting to offer his service to the University.
Archibong who said he was excited that his dream of many years has come to fruition with the University’s maiden convocation, appealed to well-meaning Cross Riverians to invest and support the institution.
In his words: “We encourage our elites to wade in their support by investing in this progressive project, the provision of hostels, research grants, donations of books and materials, etc.”
On his part, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Ani Nkang said Jedy-Agba was considered for the appointment because of his wealth of experience and the confidence that he’ll add so much value to the institution.
While explaining that the ceremony was a combined convocation of graduands from three sets; 2019/2020, 2020/2021, and 2021/2022, he revealed that a total of 240 graduands were to receive different classes of degrees;18 first class, 115 Second Class Upper, 91 Second Class Lower, and 161 Third Class.
