Cross River Former Governor Receives Provisional License To Operate Private University

Former Governor of Cross River State from 1999 to 2007, Mr. Donald Duke has received a provisional license to operate a private university.

The institution which is named Duke Medical University was approved alongside 37 others by the National Universities Commission (NUC) in May 2023 through the then Minister for Education Adamu Adamu.

Other notable approvals include Henry Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa – Hensard University, Toru-Orua, and Attahiru Bafarawa of Sokoto – Amaj University, Kwali-Abuja.

Also granted provisional approval was the British Canadian University, Obudu Cross River State built by the immediate past Governor of Cross River State, Senator Ben Ayade.

While presenting the licenses to the universities, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, David Adejo, at the NUC’s Headquarters in Abuja, disclosed that the country now has 147 private universities.
