Months After Wearing New Look, Calabar Kada Cinema Gutted By Fire, Management Reacts

By CrossRiverWatch Admin

Not more than twelve weeks and a few days after a cinema – Kada Cinema Marina Resort was renovated and commissioned by the Governor of Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu and other entourage,  a yet-to-be-traced fire but viewed to be an “electrical surge” has razed down the entertainment hub.

It was renovated in November 2023 having remained dilapidated for about five years.

The cinema was gutted by the tense inferno in the late hours of Saturday,  February 17, 2024.

It is situated a few meters away from the Federal Fire Service,  however, there were complaints of not sighting firefighters with a drop of water when needed.

Meanwhile, the management of the Cinema has debunked media reports saying the entire building was completely razed.

In a press release issued by the Managing Director of Cross River State Tourism Bureau, Prince Ojoi Ekpenyong, on Sunday, said the outbreak was due to an electrical surge.

He said the VIP, Studios 1,2, and 3 are not affected and are intact and the movie hub will soon come to life again when fixed.

“Our attention has been drawn to news making the rounds on some Social Media platforms purporting that the Kada Cinemas Calabar has been completely burnt down following a fire outbreak in one of its studios.

“There was a fire outbreak in one of the studios due to an electrical surge on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at about 10:20 pm.

“The fire incident was contained in Studio 4 where the flames broke out and did not impact other areas.

“We, therefore, wish to put it on record that the Kada Cinemas is NOT BURNT DOWN. All other sections: The VIP, Studios 1, 2, and 3 are not affected and are intact.

“Businesses at the complex including the Bistro, and ticketing areas are fully functional. However, once cleaning is completed, hopefully, later on, the cinema will be opened to movie lovers and fun seekers within the week.

“We call on the public to disregard the misinformation going on in Social Media regarding Kada Cinemas.

“We remain committed to serving you the best of entertainment and relaxation and seek your support and understanding in the present circumstances.

“The Management is working with the relevant agencies to determine what led to the fire incident, while we commend the EPZ firefighters for their prompt intervention.”
