The Cross River State Command of the Nigerian Police Force has listed those involved in the gruesome murder of Mrs. Juliana Amunde at her residence in Obudu Local Government Area on the eve of Christmas, 2024.
“Upon investigation, it was discovered that Mrs. Justina Amunde had been murdered by her biological son, Mathias Amunde, alongside his accomplice, Emmanuel Oruru, both of whom carried out the heinous act with the help of one Henry Abang alias Walcott, who is currently at large,” reads a statement with reference number, AZ:5250/CRS/PPRD/VOL.17/259.
Mrs. Amunde, 50, and her housemaid, Miss Fortunate Ochonu, were reported missing by her son, Thomas Amunde on December 26th, 2024 which led to the police to commence investigation activities, the statement, issued on Wednesday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Irene Ugbo reads.

“The investigation revealed that on the night of the 24th of December 2024, the suspects gained access to Mrs. Justina’s Residence and hid in the kitchen, awaiting her return from the church. After killing the victim, they wrapped her body, threw it into a well, and fled with her mobile phone. The housemaid, Miss Fortunate Ochonu, managed to escape from the attackers.

“A manhunt was launched for the suspects, which led to the arrest of Mathias Amunde and Emmanuel Oruru. Both suspects have since confessed to the crime.
“The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Calabar for a detailed investigation and will be prosecuted accordingly. Updates on the outcome of the investigation will be communicated to the public in due course,” the Police said.
